After a rainy Saturday morning, crowds flocked to Chicago’s Soldier Field for day two of Spring Awakening Music Festival.
The day’s massive crowds made Friday seem more like a preparty rather than the festival’s kickoff.
The sheer size was most obvious during Zedd’s performance, which easily drew the largest crowd of the day to the Equinox stage.
Chicago is very much a bass-hungry city, which was evidenced by not only the festival’s lineup itself, but also the attendance of particular performances.
12th Planet’s set overflowed “Da Drive Tent,” while Green Velvet’s house-dominated set directly afterwards attracted a crowd of less than half the size.
Saturday’s performance highlights included those by Zeds Dead, Nervo, Ricky Romero, Gramatik, Paul Oakenfold, Lucky Date, and Savoy.
A dramatic pause after Wolfgang Gartner’s second-to-last set on the main stage led to a surprise fireworks show leading into Bassnectar’s closing set. This was Lorin’s first performance in Chicago since Lollapalooza last year and he appeared to be just as excited to be a part of the festival as the fans.
Rain again started to pour with less than 30 minutes remaining in the night, a much better outcome than the forecast had first predicted.
Tickets are still available for the festival’s final day tomorrow and several after parties on Sunday night.
